Coming Home

Triton is digesting fine, and eats completely without the feeding tube (good thing, since he tore it out 3 times by himself yesterday). He comes home this Friday. Thank you all for the good thoughts and prayers, they have meant more than we can express. We will post more pictures soon.

Mom holding Triton. He is doing good - keeping his own temperature and no extra lights. He can come home from the hospital once he no longer needs the feeding tube and can digest everything completely. Not sure when exactly, just sometime in the next several weeks.

Many people ask where his name came from. Well, dad enjoys mediterranean mythology and art, and mom was very gracious and liked how it sounded. We first got the idea from an Italian dictionary of names. This is the Fontana del Tritone in Rome, by the famous Baroque artist Bernini. Here the greek mythical figure Triton blows a conch shell and is held up by dolphins. The fountain was commissioned by Pope Urban VIII and completed in 1643. The name Triton represents the personification of the roaring waters and is believed to have originated with the distinguished seafaring merchants known as the Phoenicians, from whom our own roman alphabet was derived.

Triton's parents started this blog to share details regarding the birth of our first son with family and friends.

Currently Triton is still in the hospital, as he was born 6 weeks early and can't quite do everything on his own yet. He and mom are doing great and we can't wait until he can come home, which may be anywhere from 1-6 weeks from now.
